About the speaker: Dr. Didra BrownTaylor, PhD, MPH received her undergraduate degrees in Black Studies and Biology from the University of the Pacific. She received graduate training in multicultural community-clinical psychology and specializes in culturally appropriate community-based research methodology for inclusion of African American and Latino participants. She received her Masters in Public Health in Urban Studies from Charles Drew University. Dr. BrownTaylor completed her Post-doctoral Fellowship at UCLA’s Integrated Substance Abuse Program and is a National Institutes of Health- Health Disparities Research Scholar. Dr. BrownTaylor has been a trailblazer in researching the relationships between alcohol availability, advertising, consumption, and negative consequences associated with malt liquor drinking. Her latest areas of research focus on two areas: (1) Alcopops. Alcosnacks, Energy Drinks and underaged drinking and (2) (pruno/hooch) production and consumption by prison inmates. She is the recipient of numerous awards including the 2007 Public Policy Award for Los Angeles County. She is currently an Assistant Professor, mentor and Principal Investigator of the Black Beauty Shop Health Promotion Project at Charles Drew University.
